Welcome to Leicester & Leicestershire Sands.
Who are we?
Leicester Sands is a voluntary group of parents who have all experienced the death of a baby either during pregnancy or soon after birth. The exact details of our losses vary widely, however, we all share the common experience of grieving for our children and trying to find a way to live with our loss. We are not a professional health team or counsellors but parents who know how devastating the death of a child can be.
How can we help?
Our aim is to offer support, understanding, comfort and most importantly, a listening ear. We are able to offer telephone support or you are very welcome to come to our support meetings. Our support meetings are very informal and held in a relaxed atmosphere. You can talk, share experiences or just listen. Our group is there for parents, their families, friends and anyone else affected by the death of a baby, no matter how long ago or recent the loss.
Support for all
The death of a baby can happen to any one of us. What brings us together in Sands is the common experience of this painful loss.
Your baby may have been stillborn or died during or soon after birth. He or she might have spent some time in a special care baby unit. It may be that your baby died at an earlier gestation or that you had to make the difficult decision to end your pregnancy. We offer support whenever a baby dies, whatever the circumstances.
As well as supporting mothers and fathers, we are also able to help other members of your family, especially grandparents and other children. Many people may be touched by your baby’s death, including friends and health professionals, and all are welcome to contact us for support and information.
You may not want anything from us right away. We are here to help whenever you feel you need it. That may be now or in a few weeks, months or even years.
